Thanks for yet another helpful hint!
This time I got it already :-)
When I get a new crafty version I always first read the relevant part of
the log in main.c in order to know what it is what I got.  Ain't I smart? :-)

Sorry for the confusion.

Still, apart from that +/- change, crafty's evaluation has changed notably
between 17.7 and 18.8.  After reading the change log this is no surprise,
there have been several changes regarding pawn evaluation.
