Let's see if I can say the same thing in different terms, for those (like me, until I looked at the file) who might be confused: 1. Five plies are played from the opening position (White has finished move 3 but Black has not yet played move 3). Snapshot each such position. 2. From that position, Black has a forced mate in 4 (or less). 3. Count all the possible positions from #1 that satisfy #2 and you get 5552. Is that right?
