Subject: in 1977 Fischer laughed after playing the GreenBlatt computer.

here is a remark from Bobby Fischer, back in 1977. He played a three game
match against the MIT GreenBlatt computer program. this was headed up
by Richard GreenBlatt.

"It is amazing to think that after this match, Bobby laughed, calling this
computer program the work of an untalented amateur!".

there is so much history in this field of chess computers. and we must
remember that the computer and all of its componenets have grown along
with the chess programs. together these two sciences have evolved into
what we all know as the programs and pcs of today.

this is just a small example of how it used to be, 24 years ago.
processors were measured in khz not mhz.
in this game the 200 khz processor could search ten positions per second.
my 1550 mhz can search 1364 kns, thats 1,364,000 per second.
amazing how this keeps growing.

in this position the computer blunders with b3.
of course no program today would play this.
the correct move would be Rb1.
there was all sorts of problems back then, for the programmers, and
their hardware.

here is another major blunder with the infant software, in this same game.
didnt we all stumble when we were growing up.
in this position the computer played Rf1.

this was probably the worst blunder in this game. the score almosts doubles
when the computer plays h4.
not that it matters at this point with Fischer, it is just that no program
today would play this.
the correct move here is Rd1.

well, i am glad i am witnessing the programs of today.
i feel that if there is laughter from a GM, towards any program today,
that it will be before the game. there will be no laughter during or
after any game with a top program of today. one by one, the GM
will learn that the chess computer program of today is a very
      formidable opponent.
