The "norm" requirement simplyh sets the number of points you must earn in an event, based on the average rating of the player pool. It is basically 2600. Which means if you entered a tournament with an average rating of 2600, and you drew all games, you would have a 2600 performance rating for that event, meeting one GM norm requirement. I have not seen any requirement that for a norm to be official, you must win X games plus have a 2600 performance rating... > >also... >i read most posts here. and have for awhile now. i do not remember > anyone posting a protest here against shredder5 being the world champion. >didnt shredder5 win the world championship without beating all programs > in the last tournament. werent there some draws. if i remember correctly, > shredder5 was awarded world championship with only a draw against fritz. So? In a Swiss event, the player with the most points at the end is the winner. Often, if there is a tie, there is a play-off. Not always of course. But in a Swiss, it is unlikely for everybody to play everybody.. that is called a round-robin event and has N-1 rounds where N is the total number of players in the event. That makes an event with 20+ programs _far_ too long to make it practical. The Swiss is the best alternative... > >also... >it seems that the higher your level of play, the more draws that can be > expected. i have noticed this as i have increased my mhz, my ability, > my programs, there are so many draws now with the top programs at the > game servers. and with the GM tournaments, mostly draws. > >also... >this temporary period we are passing through now, with program vs GM draws, > what if this continues for 2 to 3 years or more. what if our top programs > start playing a lot more GM level players. and if this happens how many > GM draws does a program have to achieve before some will post that > programs are GM level. > >also... >ask Mr. hyatt how many GM draws are in his ICC crafty or scrappy accounts. > my question is how many GM draws does it take to be a GM. There are many draws vs GM players. Just log on to ICC and type "search scrappy draw" and see what you get. As far as "how many draws does it take to be a GM?" I can't answer. Some GM players can almost draw at will against programs... If you want to think that after a GM draws a computer 75% of the games, then the computer is a GM, that is one way of thinking. But it is also going to be just another opinion, of course... > >also... >if we knew someone who has never beat a GM, but plays all the top tournaments > and has drawn against all the top players,,,,,,,do we call him,,,,a GM > wantabe, a master at drawing a GM, a non rated player, maybe i should > just call him awesome, or should i call him a GM. of course all of these > are questions,,,but if i met him in the lobby of the waldorf, i would > have a desire to shake his hand and to call him GRANDMASTER.
