Hi Dann, OK, Deep Fritz have better hardware but it is enough for a match against Kramnik with 2.800 ELO. I don`t know. I saw in the online match Deep Shredder vs. The World (see the log files) that maybe more hardware power is not sooo important. So I think that with a program with the actual hardware (for example: Athlon 1Ghz) get not 60-70 ELO more compare to a Athlon with 2Ghz. Maybe against a GM 20-40 ELO, I believe 20 ELO !! I believe Deep Fritz, or Chess Tiger, Junior, Shredder or Gandalf have no chance in a long match against Kramnik. But the best chance have a program with a lot of chess knowledge. I mean, for an example against a Grandmaster: Deep Fritz tactical strength = 3.000 ELO Deep Fritz postional strength = 2.350 ELO Deep Fritz endgame strength = 2.500 ELO Deep Shredder tactical strength = 2.900 ELO Deep Shredder positional strength = 2.400 ELO Deep Shredder endgame strength = 2.550 ELO Not important is 100 ELO more in tactical stenght but 50 ELO more in positional strenght is important in combination with tactical strength. So I think the best chance against Kramnik have: - World Champion Shredder - Hiarcs 7 or better 8 :-)) - Gandalf 4.32g - Maybe Rebel Century, Virtual Chess or Chess Tiger. Furthermore, only the World Champion Shredder against Kramnik is interesting. Other programs are for me not interesting. We have a World Champion, a program which won 3x the World Championschip, so we have not one reason to play with Fritz !! Absolutly clear !! People can write x reasons for a match Kramnik - Tiger or Kramnik - Fritz. All is not important. Important is that Shredder won 3x the Computer Chess World Championchip. Best Frank
