I'm probably being pedantic, but I might point out that the majority of chess engines which are available are certainly not capable of performing at GM level. My own engine, Blikskottel, can manage no better than class A performance - by whatever standards you care to judge - and many of the other engines are in the same position. Now perhaps a few programs are contenders for consideration as GM-performers, on the right hardware and against the right opponents; I reserve my judgment for the meanwhile. However, credit belongs to the massive amounts of effort which have been put in by the leading chess developers and researchers - as those of us who can only dream of beating a GM will testify :-) Regards Adam
