The problem with that approach is it requires a heck of a lot of effort from a
heck of a lot of people.  I (for one) am too lazy even to check checkboxes after
I have read an article.  I might do it for a while, but I would just give it up,
I think.

I don't think you're going to get it (long term effort to classify posts).

An alternative would be to create folders with those names on it.
Someone wants to post on chess programming, then they post in the chess
programming folder.
Someone wants to post on a tournament, they post to a tournament folder.
etc.

The Rebel forum has a bit of division like that, but not much detail.

The big problem (as I see it) is:
How do we think up all the subjects that people might post on?
