IMO --

The ICCA is a weak organization with no teeth.

It provides a good forum for chess programmers to share information.
As far as organizing tournaments and things of that nature -- they have no idea
what they are doing, and they have no muscle to make things happen the right
way.

Unfortunately, I don't think it will be easy to replace the ICCA with something
better. Most of the computer chess power sits in the hands of the commercial
chess entries. These entities do have the clout to get unfair advantages, and
the bigger they are, the larger the advantage. (Just an observation).

So how will you change anything? If you make an organization that pulls the
fangs out of the big companies, they could simply boycott. If the big bruisers
don't show up, the new organization won't have the respect of the general
public. "Why isn't Mega Corporation here? Why isn't Behemoth Inc. here?"

Shredder (the latest ICCA world champion) has received none of the respect that
should be due to a champion. How to fix things? Beats me. I can't think of
anything that would work.
