xboard and winboard would requier you to be logged on while playing, I
think he is meaning something running unattended on a shell account,
like robofics.
Here is the output from 'help robofics' on fics.onenet.net:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Where do I get it?
A: It's available at ftp://fics.onenet.net/pub/chess/Unix
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: What is the current version?
A: Version 1.4.3
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: What chessprograms does it support?
A: Currently it's reported to work with the recent versions of Crafty,
Gnuchess, Sjaak, OliPow and SSEChess.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: What platforms are supported?
A: Just about any machine running UNIX should be able to compile and
run
it. Windoze 95/NT ports are possible - but not a high priority. If
you want to port it to windoze or mac, let me know. I've heard
that it will work on OS/2 with the EMX port of gcc - but I have
not tested it myself.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Do I need X-Windows?
A: No. It was originally written because we wanted some computers
online here at fics at all time without occupying an X-terminal. It
is supposed to be run 'in the background'.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Where do I find more info about this?
A: Try downloading it and check the README file. It contains fairly
good info on how to make it work - if I may say so myself :)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Where do I send suggestions/comments/bugreports/questions/thanks?
A: My email is hawk@freechess.org - I prefer mails instead of fics
messages.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q: Where do I send complaints?
A: To /dev/null :)
