The original situation was terrible.  I can find fault with the original
compromise decision, but it was made under pressure and didn't cause a lot of
damage, so I think it's okay.

Some of the other stuff would have been bad.  Multiple entrants per team would
have been bad.  Imagine the kind of stuff that would been said in here if round
one is Fritz versus Fritz, Junior versus Junior, and Shredder versus Shredder,
and in order to win you have to play Junior twice and Shredder twice and Fritz
twice.
