I pretty much agree. More than 90% of Arasan users are using the
built-in GUI, not Winboard. They just install it, start it up and
start using it. Judging from questions and comments I've gotten
back, a lot of them don't even ever change the default settings.
Winboard is an extra install plus some hookup and that's too
much trouble.

There are other programs such as Bringer that have reasonable
built-in GUIs, too.

I don't think even an easy to install GUI on a freeware engine
is really competition for the commercial programs. Chessmaster
is cheap and you get a lot for your money. But a lot of people
seem happy with freeware.
