I'd like to thank everyone who responded to my post about identifying my my old chess computer. Looks like what I have is a Fidelity Sensory Chess Challenger, model 8. I also learned some links to some very interesting sites. Thanks again. I'm not sure why, but I enjoy playing with this old fossil. Well, maybe I do know why. I can beat it. I have no manual so I've had to figure out how to implement its few functions (It took me awhile to figure out how to make the machine play the white pieces) Its playing strength is very poor of course. Just for the fun of it, I played it against some of my top PC progs--Hiarcs7.32, Fritz 6, Nimzo 7.32, Tiger 14, Junior 6, Gambit Tiger 2.0. Naturally the Chess Challenger was crushed in every single game. But I was curious to see which of my top programs would do it quickest. The answer, by a wide margin, was Nimzo 7.32. This Chess Challenger is programmed to resign exactly one move before mate. Every game. In the 2-game sets I played against the other programs, SCC resigned pretty consistently between move 20 and move 29. But against Nimzo 7.32, with SCC playing White, SCC resigned on move 15! With Black, SCC resigned on move 14! Both times with mate coming on the move. eric
