If you want to fight the monopoly, then don't buy _any_ microsoft products, XP,
2000 or otherwise. Seriously though, when buying an OS for your system, chess
program compatiblity shouldn't be your first concern. Personally now I'm running
Windows 2000 with no problems. If you can wait for XP then go for it, but you
may have to wait a couple of months. Sure the unpleasant "activation" feature
maybe a pain, but Microsoft did resently lessen the strangle hold. If you buy a
legit copy of XP you shouldn't have any problems. I recommend going to some
sites and reading up on XP and 2000 to get some umm "professional" advice.

If you are a big game player ie Quake, Half-Life etc... then you may even stick
with Windows 98SE. Windows 2000, and from what I've seen Windows XP, aren't a
gamers best friend. Hopefully the retail version of XP will show me wrong :)
Remember, Mircosoft has a habit of giving there products funny names. Example:
Windows 2000 is really Windows NT 5.0....

Some recommend sites:

There are others as well.

Enjoy.
