The developers realize that 10% of the users of their product will have stolen it from another user so they use cd checking to crimp this. This has several effects. It reduces the # of people stealing their product, but it also reduces the # of people purchasing their products as well. IF someone wants to steal software they will do it. The Internet has made this even easier to do. rebel products do not ask for the cd to run... that is nice. 10% theft vs 10% fewer customers ? Hmmm Ed
