I would think that situation will become more or less the rule, as processor
speed and IPC increase. Barring unforeseen technical developments. There is
already a few native code compilers that can run inside the L1 cashe. It could
even get to the point where compressed Intermediate Language representations
could run a majority tasks faster than native code.
