My results were same as you. R=2 is alway better for me, both for test suites
and for real games.

I only have a relativly simple evaluation, and it doesn't recognize those
typical tactics that nullmove will miss. I was wondering maybe this is the
reason in my case that R=2 works better. But i don't have any hard evidence.
