I tried it too in my program and I noticed the following - the gain (time / nodes) from R=2 to R=3 wasn't very big, around 10 % - often relatively simply tactics were missed I have to admit that my program isn't a very fast searcher and that it may be possible that R=3 is practicable at higher search depths (>9 ply) Rafael B.
