I'm not completely sure what your confusion is. All the positions reached by a symmetry transformation have exactly the same mate score. One thing to remember is that the symmetry operation needs to be applied to all the pieces. So the position: [D] 8/8/8/2K5/kN1B4/8/8/8 w gets mapped to: [D] 8/8/8/kN1B4/2K5/8/8/8 w upon a "vertical" reflection. Since the symmetry operation flips colors, the bishop flips colors in this case. -Marc
