This is correct. Probably giving a single-cpu version 5X longer to think would
be a very good approximation of the 8-way box. My tests on an 8-way box showed
a more significant degradation of the memory system, because 8 cpus want a lot
of memory bandwidth, and there isn't much there to support that many processors.
4-way boxes already exhibit memory bottlenecks.

I'm not sure about that. Someone is going to lose a bunch of money somewhere.
And after they are hyping this machine as better than deep blue, if it gets
whacked someone is going to look super-foolish.

I agree. It is a ridiculous stipulation.

From that perspective, yes. But unfortunately for them, they have let the
hyperbole get out of control. And since DB beat Kasparov, and Fritz is
better than Deep Blue, Fritz had better either beat Kramnik or put up a near-
win. Otherwise, the hyperbole is going to be seen for what it really is, and
someone is going to get embarassed.

Kramnik is the intelligent one here. He gets over 1/2 million dollars if he
loses every game. I'd take those odds. :)
