Surely, this is the death blow for Windows. Now all the commercial firms will
abandon it and write Linux applications. They will replace the 50 million
desktop operating systems and reinstall all the applications. Then the
applications that are missing will be written as open software and installed.

Lovely day, isn't it?

Really, I think this whole silly OS advocacy thing is childish.
But that's just my opinion.

You know, over on USENET, on the news server I subscribe to there are:
news:comp.os.linux.advocacy
news:comp.os.ms-windows.advocacy
news:comp.os.ms-windows.nt.advocacy
news:comp.os.os2.advocacy
news:comp.sys.acorn.advocacy
news:comp.sys.amiga.advocacy
news:comp.sys.atari.advocacy
news:comp.sys.be.advocacy
news:comp.sys.mac.advocacy
news:comp.sys.net-computer.advocacy
news:comp.sys.next.advocacy
news:comp.sys.powerpc.advocacy
news:comp.sys.unix.advocacy
news:sol.lists.freebsd.advocacy
news:sol.lists.openbsd.advocacy

and a very large number of similar groups that cater to certain foreign
languages. Funny that there is no OpenVMS (one of my favorites).

Anyway, arguing about which OS is best already has lots of advocates. You can
go and sing with the choir and everyone will sound the same beautiful notes.

Or you can crosspost to the hated adversary groups and get a big hullaballoo
stared. Won't that be fun.

Microsoft is a lot of people's favorite whipping boy right now. If you want to
tap dance on MS, then why not go and do it where others enjoy the same thing?

If you don't like something, then don't buy it. There are lots and lots of
alternatives. At any rate, I really am *personally* sick of this stupid OS
bashing and I wish that the principle parties would go elsewhere.

I use (on a daily basis):
Linux
Solaris
OpenVMS
OS/2
MVS
AIX
Windows 2000
Windows NT
HP/UX
{and some others that don't spring to mind right now...}
and I like them all.

Stuff like "My OS is better than your OS..." or "Your OS sucks because..."
really doesn't make a lot of sense to me for a computer chess club forum.

It's especially commical [to me] that many frequent posters want to bash Windows
systems, since 99.9% of all computer chess programs are running on that
platform. The rest:
.07% Unix (of which most is Linux)
.03% everything else.[1]

[1] Did I mention that 87.235% of all statistics are completely made up?
Or that figures don't lie, but liars will figure?
