Sure, we can expect the results to be used for marketing a program, but I >think you can hardly blame anyone for doing so. > >Bob we need those kind of events. i see it also that they are social events. where people meet each other and join the companionship of people having the same hobby. but imo the events should be planned more professional. changing rules shortly before the event begins is not professional. if this would be a just-for-fun event, you could change rules. but people have to pay for it. they invest time in preparation, buying machines and working in a team. you can't change the rules just before the world championships begin. these events shall make chances for companies to publish their products. to keep people inform. new programmers can show up, new ideas could be realized. it's a pity that there are not more sponsors. i wonder. why? computerchess is imo a good are to get sponsors, or ? why is it so difficult to get sponsors ? i wonder what the icca requests for sponsoring. maybe they ask wrong or demand to much. i have no idea. but it should normally no problem to get sponsors for computerchess, what do you think ?
