You got me there.  Actually, I think several amateur programs had a shot.  I
suspected that Ferret might win it all, since it has done so well in the recent
past.  Ferret also (to the best of my knowledge) has never taken a nickel from
anyone.

I should have said "athletics" instead of "sports"
