First of all congratulations to the new WMCCC champions! I have been wondering about a news item on the Rebel webpage describing the participation of Chess Tiger in a tournament in Argentina. This item has been there for over a month now, and until recently at the top of the list. There is one thing about the story that has puzzled me. It is the statement that Chess Tiger earned *TWO* GM norms in the tournament. Let's leave aside the the fact that GM norms can only be obtained by human players. Instead let's assume that a human player would achieve the same result as Chess Tiger did in this particular tournament. Would the player have achieved *TWO* GM norms? I don't believe so. Actually a player can never achieve two GM norms in a single tournament. The performance figure given for Chess Tiger in the story is also incorrect (it was not as high as stated and should be slightly lower). It may still be good enough to be "the highest elo rating ever produced by a chess program facing strong human chess players". I don't know about that. Since the performance of Chess Tiger in this tournament might be referenced sometime in the future I thought that it might be helpful for the readers of CCC to know that the statements about it's performance should be taken with a grain of salt. PS. I am a proud owner of Chess Tiger, Gambit Tiger and Rebel, and I have a high opinion of all these programs.
