I tried in the past under chessbase an experiment by getting programs out of
book by moves like 1.f3 and the results was that white had practical chances to
win the game

I used Fritz5 and Junior5 and they have not a reply to 1.f3 in their book.

Programs today may have a reply to 1.f3 in their book and I do not suggest 1.f3
but building manually a small book with some quiet lines like 1.e4 e5 2.Be2
and you can get in a few moves equal position that does not appear in the
database.

equal position is not as good as slightly better position but it still not so
bad.

I believe that you can get with a little effort of building a small book
50% with white and 40% with black against equal opponents with the book of kure
and it is not so bad.
