As I recall, Robert didn't say that the program, Crafty, is professional, but
the the programmer, himself, is NOT an amateur chess programmer.  (I think he
also indicated that he's not a 'professional" chess programmer exactly either,
and that there's an in-between category like "academic" that would best fit
him.)
