Yes they are stronger.
The other things is that you can very easily save games and transfer them to
your PC (and from your PC to the Palm as well).
I short, you get many of the features you have in PC chess program in a device
that fits in your pocket. Older dedicated chess computers do not come even close
in strength and features.
And many people already own a Palm. For them, it's just a matter of $25 to get a
serious chess program in their pocket.
