But you could say the same thing about any group of people. Why single out Chess players and programmers as being the ones who should "be devoting our time to solving the problems of HUMANITY". To be honest, I'd select a group of people who are better suited for the task. Do you REALLY want a Chess player or programmer solving the problems of humanity?. Not me, they'd cause more problems than they'd solve. Take CCC for example... please >I don't know about anyonelse but everytime i >come here I feel like I am wasting precious time, although I enjoy it >considerably. So what would you do in your spare time when you weren't solving the problems of the world? Because you can't do that 24 hours a day. You'd probably write or play a Chess program in your spare time. Sort of means we've gotten nowhere. Computer Chess and Chess is generally important because it keeps nerds off the street where they'd just be getting the crap beat out of them anyway. And since there's only so much energy a bully can spend beating up Chess players, when his time would be better spent solving the problems of humanity, Chess is there so the bullies can get back to the more important tasks at hand. Saving the world. Pete
