Well if I were really cynical I would that gambit soft posted the news that the fritz 5 patch plays as a standalone so that chessbase wouldn't offer the free upgrade any longer. What strikes me as odd is that gambit soft takes issue with them putting up the free patch instead of them not puttign it up sooner. At least here in the USA it really is pretty rare for a US company to just flat out renege on a promise. But reneging aside I would Highly recomend Fritz5, freepatch or no freepatch.
