I wonder why a true differential patch was not used.  This is a program
which compares the old and new files and generates an executable which
takes the old file and turns it into the new one.  The patch created in
this way would then be useless without the original files.  It would be
much smaller too, usually only a few dozen KB.  I think there are even
shareware programs which will do this.  The only complication is that
you have to check to make sure whoever is using the patch starts with
the right version before patching.
