I have a very close friend who works at AMD in Austin, Texas. I recently saw
that a local computer store was selling an Athlon MP 1.4Ghz processor. I went
to AMD's homepage to look for specs, and was amazed that there wasn't a single
word on an Athlon MP 1.4Ghz.

I called my friend, Friday afternoon and asked him about this. He told me that
there was no such thing as an Athlon MP 1.4Ghz, but he would see if the regular
K7 would work, with the Tyan mobo. He called me back about an hour later, and
said he spoke with some engineers on the matter. Simply put, it _COULD_ work,
but would be a disaster.

He gave me a brief explanation, but it bascially ended up being the way the
CPU's accessed the memory. Simply put, the MP processors are MP processors for
a reason, and the K7's will not work properly.

He also told me, those who are waiting for the MP 1.4Ghz, don't hold your
breath. It seems everyone WANTED a dual Athlon system, and now that they are
here, no one seems to be buying them.

Anyway, sorry about your troubles Vince. I have a dual PIV Xeon 1.7Ghz system,
and I know your pain. While heat might be less of an issue for me, I had
problems from the power supply, to getting an ATA100 drive to work in anything
other than PIO mode. I had cache on chips go bad, and every other problem you
can imagine, also. However, luckly I was not on a deadline like you. :)
