As i said helpdesks at AMD are a disaster, they don't inform their own personal even. Crafty ran at a dual 1.4Ghz tbird system and in belgium there are 1.4Ghz Athlon MPs. I have a dual 1.2Ghz Athlon MP, and the reason they sell so bad is because they do not sell the chips in large quantities yet and it's very expensive anyway this chip. To get a MP processor in europe is IMPOSSIBLE without going through hell. Add to that, that till a few weeks ago AMD didn't officially release the MP processor, only a mobile processor was released with that core. >I called my friend, Friday afternoon and asked him about this. And this wasn't a joke story at all, crafty really participated there! Your AMD friend is probably from the cleaning crew? If not then that's typical showing how the AMD helpdesk works! No the crafty machine wasn't overclocked. Even had bios 1.01... ...which would be a disaster to run other software than a few chessprograms. >He gave me a brief explanation, but it bascially ended up being the way the >CPU's accessed the memory. Old stepping tbirds definitely do not work properly, new stepping seems to work great! >He also told me, those who are waiting for the MP 1.4Ghz, don't hold your >breath. It seems everyone WANTED a dual Athlon system, and now that they are >here, no one seems to be buying them. As i said, if you go to a shop there are no MPs buyable there. If you then ask the first answer is always: "i can't deliver those dude". >Anyway, sorry about your troubles Vince. I have a dual PIV Xeon 1.7Ghz system, >and I know your pain. Also a big problem was the helpdesk from AMD and especially Tyan. both don't seem to have a helpdesk...
