Subject: How to select the best Moderator(s)???

Author: Robert Henry Durrett

(1)    Thanks to the CCC management for offering the membership an
opportunity to have an influence on the choice of moderator(s) via
nomination and voting!
(2)    Since I, personally, will most likely not recognize the names of
any of the people offered as candidates, the only way I could make an
intelligent decision is to look at the chess bulletin boards to see if
those candidates had ever posted bulletins which I would consider to be
objectionable. If they had, then I would vote against them.
(3)    Unfortunately, people who post to chess bulletin boards sometimes
use "names" which are not similar to their real names.  In fact, there
seems to be no way for anyone to know whether or not one of the CCC
moderator candidates ever posted to chess bulletin boards under
pseudo-names.  In one case, someone called himself "Anonymous" which
obviously was not the name on his[her?] birth certificate.  Both the
person who called himself Anonymous and another who called himself Rolf
would be unacceptable to me.  But how can I be sure that I do not
unknowingly vote for one of them?  I also would vote against anyone who
has ever debated what I would consider to be an inappropriate issue on
the chess bulletin boards and would vote against anyone who had ever
used any kind of abusive language or vulgarity.  But how can I be sure
your candidates qualify?????  I know the "names" which appeared on the
bulletin boards, but not their real names.
(4)    To help with this, I suggest that the voting ballot not only give
the candidate's real name, but all of the pseudo-names which he/she has
used on chess bulletin boards.
(5)    Otherwise, I do not see how I, or anyone else, could
intelligently vote for a moderator.
