I think you are making this too complicated. We are really looking for people with good judgement most of the time, not paragons of virtue. None of the candidates that I have seen use multiple aliases (as far as I know) and I feel it would be wrong to ask them to prove who they are and that they have a good track record. If you are curious about a particular candidate, you can do the research yourself by going back through the old CCC postings. If their involvement in other forums is important to your decision as well, send them an e-mail and ask. A moderator position is not a position with benefits. It is volunteer work to keep this place pleasant. People volunteering to take their turn as moderators are making a sacrifice. That alone is an excellent first filter for potential moderators. - Dan
