>In that case, with all those possibilities, I will try UCI GUI instead of >WinBoard GUI. >Where can you download UCI GUI ? UCI is not a GUI: it is a protocol of communication for chess programs. The confusion comes from the fact that Winboard is both a GUI and protocol. An engine "Winboard-compatible" is an engine that works under Winboard (or any program that supports the winboard standard) An engine "UCI-compatible" is an engine that work under a GUI that is UCI compatible (which is a sort of tautology). What Frank wanted to say with "UCI is free" is that anybody can develop a program that has a (chess) GUI (i.e. a interface with a chess board etc...) and implement the UCI standard, whitouth to have to pay any royalty. At the moment Chess Asistant 6 and Shredder 5 support the UCI standard. In a near future ChessBase will release a new GUI that supports both UCI engines and ChessBase-native engines. Also CehssAcademy 7 will support it and I guess that many other programs will soon. But all this are commercial products. I don't know if Winboard will support the UCI. In that case it will be a free GUI supporting both Winboard and UCI protocol. ciao Franz
