Since I am not sure if one of my indication was understood correctly (or if I
explained myself in clear way) I will say how deep is first and second position.
First - 9 moves. Second - 13 moves.

Celeron 600. LLchess. No hash.

First position: selective search 9 moves - 0.33 sec.
                  brute force - 3.68 sec

Second position: selective search 13 moves - 30 sec.
                  brute force search 13 moves - 1 hour 8 min 40 sec.

Leonid.
