 nslookup of chess.net reveals 216.234.161.156

doing a quick scan of the open ports reveals that
21(FTP),22,23(TELNET),25(SMTP),79(FINGER),80(HTTP),110(POP3),111(PORTMAP),113(AUTH)4999
and 5000 gives <CR> so its open

try this...Open a shell window or a Dos window and type "telnet
216.234.161.156 5000" If it gives the host name in the title bar its open. If
not that means the ISP could be blocking the port. Port mapping is possible but
I doubt Chess.net servers have that implemented.
