With your suggested change it just gets _too_ deep :)

This looks like a design decision to me to not let the extensions exceed 30
moves - bad luck in this position.

2. Nf6+ Ke5

And we have reached the mate in 30 position previously posted. ( I think the
position Volker took from the Rebel site simply went two moves into the Bwee
study to give ordinary chess engines some chances).

Thanks for posting the original source. I assume Gustav is a mate solver?
Written by you? Is it availlable for the public or is it private?

This position with the surprising mate delivered by the c-pawn is really
beautiful IMHO.
