Subject: Kramink vs. DF: Is it live? or Memorex????

Kudos to www.kasparov.com for asking ChessBase the tough questions. I was
afraid that Kasparov.com would skirt the issue. They're hitting it though head
on! Thanks Mig!

I've been accused in this forum for underestimating Deep Fritz's ability to
challenge Kramnik. I believe most posters are underestimating the abilities of
today's GrandMasters!

GrandMasters have damn good memories. It is said that Garry Kasparov can recall
move by move every serious game he's ever played. Recent studies show that
GrandMasters rely on memory more than calculation in order to accomplish their
incredible level of play.

I got a kick out of watching Garry and Vladimir staring at the board during the
BGN World Championship last year. These guys could have easily played just as
well blindfolded! They don't need to look at the board. They both have
incredible memories for those 32 pieces and 64 squares.

My guess is that Kramnik and his second have already prepared a number of
different victories against Deep Fritz. The only question is which 8 games
will they use and how many games do they want to lose or draw to make it look
good.

The only additional information that Kramnik needs to retain when playing Deep
Fritz is how long to wait before making his next move. This will be very easy
for a Grandmaster like Kramnik to do. (..I take 5 minutes on move 15...4
minutes for move 20...etc.)

No doubt we will see some "beautiful games" during this match. We may even see
Kramnik "struggle to come back". But it will be all previously rehearsed and
well thought out. And yes, Kramnik will win. Remember this is the so-called
"revenge match" against Deep Blue. It should be titled:

Revenge of the GrandMaster: The Human Strikes Back!!!

But it will all be phony. Every last move.

Is it live? or Memorex?

Chris
