hello tim,
it seems that the 1400 amd is a very good processor for a wide
variety of tasks, including chess programs. in stock form mine will
hit about 1232 kns with hash at 128. oc to 1500 it will hit about
1320 kns. with hash at 128.
this should be enough to give you a worthy opponent in most positions.
if you continue to beat your new 1400 mhz tim, then maybe slate will
let you borrow his dual 1700.
which operating system did you get?
it sounds as though you bought one of those package deals. you might have
some initial issues to get over at first. you probably have 38 icons
at your desktop, if you bought a name brand pc. i always like
cleaning up the hard drive first. nothing in tray and when you hit
ctr-alt-del, nothing in this window except explorer. lots of
these package pcs, compaq-gateway-dell-etc,,,at my place of
employment. i always try to solve these issues at work.
there have been a big variety of problems with these new
purchases. hope yours is smooth sailing.
good luck with your new toy tim,
kburcham
