Thanks Jim, I went through the ones Amy didn't solve and picked out a couple to use (I guess I'm a bit fussy). Quite a few of the positions are very artificial looking, and you are right about the odd duplicate solution. Here are the ones I picked: [D]8/2B5/1p1p4/1PkP1p2/P4P2/5P2/1p6/bK6 w - - bm Bd8; id "exercise 04.12"; This one looks quite hard, and has a nice false solution to lure unsuspecting programs :-) 1.a5 is tempting, but after 1.a5 Kxb5 (bxa5 2.b6) neither capture looks sufficient to win since the black king can stop the single passed pawn, and the white king is tied down. eg: 2.Bxb6 Ka6 3.Bc7 Kb5 4.Bxd6 Kxa5 5.Be5 Kb6 which seems to hold. [D]8/8/5P1k/8/2K5/pr2r3/4R3/2R5 w - - bm f7; id "exercise 07.08"; Quite easy this one, but nice cutes variations eg: 1.f7 Kg7 2.f8=Q Kxf8 3.Rf1+ Ke7 4.Rfe1 +- I'm still looking for some good rook endgames (K+R+pawns vs K+R+pawns). cheers, Peter
