Simply because the more CPU's you have, the slower you are. In other words, there is a 20% penalty for a 2x and I believe it raises slightly for each 2x you add on. So perhaps it's a 25% - 30% penalty. Not sure. It's hard to tell. Also, Deep Fritz uses null move. Deeper Blue did not. Perhaps the good folks at Chessbase will do a Fritzmark before the match, so we can get a good guess on what kind of nps it's getting. Slate
