Subject: Comte 90 is so strong? Strategic doubts...

Author: Fernando Villegas

Hi all:
I have always liked Comet program and I had even been one of those guys
that purchased it when it was not still free, so please don’t take the
following as a kind of attack or dislike of the product. Is just that I
cannot subscribe what is being said here about his tremendous power. My
feeling after just one game -truth, is not enough- is that Comet has
certain serious strategic problems, as you can see in the following game
I played at 40 moves in 60 minutes. I should have crushed Comet but
obviously I lost the thread somewhere and Comet handled things to get
finally a draw, but what I want to show you in the first half of the
game is how Comet was cramped beyond what you expect of a current strong
program. You will see how few opposition he putted against my pressure.
Maybe Comet fell in a line that is bad for him? Ulrich, what do you
think it happened?

I thought that after white get the e pawn and begins to threaten black
with his c pawn, a serie of eternal checks would follow. Nevertheless,
maybe if I had had less tired -it was late in the night- some method
still rested to win the day...
