I did not know about the opening book rule. this rule means that kramnik can plan his wins by starting with one of nemeth's ideas to get the program quickly out of book like 1.e4 d5 2.exd5 h5 It is taking a risk if he does not have the book but if he has the book it is no risk and he can be almost sure that the 10 plies that can be added after every game may be not relevant to a similiar game with a different line like 1.d4 h6 2.e4 h5 The rules mean that memorizing some hundreds of games may be enough to win the match. Even if the program is not deterministic he can try the same opening few times in order to see that he can win by the same idea again and again. I do not say that ideas like 1.e4 d5 2.exd5 h5 can work but even if it does not work against Fritz another idea to get Fritz out of book may work. Uri
