Think about it. How can one engine instance do more than one thing
simultaneously? How can one engine instance play against you as the "Wally"
personality, and "comment on the game" as the Chessmaster personality at the
same time? Or, even simpler, how can one engine instance play as both the
Kasparov and Fischer personalities in the same game?

The Chessmaster GUI (when it comes to the players in the game) does exactly what
Winboard does -- launch one instance of the engine for each player. CM8000 takes
it one step further by ALLOWING you (that is to say, NOT REQUIRING you) to run a
third "commentator" engine instance.

Admittedly, this could have been better explained in the original documentation,
but the explanation for it is very simple and logical. It is no bug, and there
is no obscure reason.
