If you really want the S2462, it's only $350. The needed power supply can be had for less than $100. You can get 512MB of the needed registered PC2100 memory for less than $150. The price for an Athlon 1.2Ghz Palomino processor is about $150 - the same as the price for a 933Mhz PIII processor. The S2462 is Extended ATX form factor (12" x 13") - this does not require a server case. I only checked one of the recommended cases from Tyan's page, but it's listed as a "Mid Tower" case. It is also not _that_ expensive.
