I have a Visor Prism. It was the first 16-bit color model, one of the first
running at 33 MHz, and was great when it was new (late '00) but it has its
drawbacks. First, it is quite large (thick). Second, it has no flash memory
but runs an older version of Palm OS [that can't be updated]. Third, the
current trend is toward higher screen resolutions, which this unit does not
provide. And fourth, this model does not support the new standard for memory
expansion that the newest models from Palm, Sony, and HandEra do, so you can't
add lots of memory and have it be handled in an industry-standard fashion (which
treats it somewhat like disk space but is still better than having to _manually_
transfer files to/from RAM to use them). Overall, the Prism is already showing
its age.

If I were buying today, there's no question to me which model I'd get for color:
a Sony Clie (model 610 or 710 in USA). Its 320x320 resolution is being
supported by more and more apps yet causes no slowdown [and is gorgeous]; it
supports memory sticks (which have come down in price a lot) using the
industry-standard access model; it has a better screen than the m505, by most
accounts. It is adequately small; it has a nice scroll wheel and a "back"
button; it has Palm OS 4 inside, and is flash-upgradeable (I think). The 710
model can play MP3s (although I'd save $100 and get the 610). And finally, Sony
is large, worldwide, will be around "forever", and may end up buying out Palm
Inc.
