Vincent is falling victim to what I'd call the "kill the messenger" effect.

If the messenger brings you good news, you reward them.  If the messenger brings
you bad news, you kill them.

If a program is the first to see a deep win, people consider a program to be
strong.

If a program is the first to see that it can't avoid a deep loss, people
consider it to be weak.

This makes no sense.
