When it came on the scene, it was a mid-strength engine.  Now it is becoming
stronger and stronger.  I don't know if it is as strong as Crafty or Goliath or
Yace (which are clearly the top three) but it is among the very strong engines
like Francesca MAD and Comet.  I only have version 1.50 to test, and so perhaps
1.56 has some new innovations I am not aware of.

Probably, the strongest Winboard engine is Gandalf {commercial engine}.  I think
that ChessMaster 8000 {commercial engine} would be the strongest, but it does
not use its opening book under Winboard [IIRC] which is a massive handicap.

At any rate, all of them are great fun to watch, even those among the weakest.
