I would definitely work with the other moderators if I felt there was any
question about whether or not to get involved with a particular thread. In
obvious cases, though, I think I have been around long enough on this board
(about two years now) to know when a post is inappropriate and needs moderation.

However, I certainly wouldn't think of myself as a "loose cannon". The main
problem with getting a moderator consensus (or majority) before actually doing
something about a problem is that attempting to get all three moderators
communicating at a given time might simply not be possible. That's one reason
why there are three moderators.

I would like to think that the new moderators would spend at least a brief
amount of time getting to know each other and trying to find some common ground
on which they can all perform their duties. But, as I said, from experience it
appears that most of the moderation on this board has been quick and decisive
because ONE of the moderators got involved in a timely manner. So, I would
expect that one of the first items in any "policy statement" would involve the
ability for any moderator to act autonomously if the need arose.

But, of course, any "official" policy that was agreed upon by the moderators
should be posted.
