>What are your views on working with the other 2 elected moderators in forming a >consensus moderation policy that all 3 elected moderators will then follow? I think there should be some consense. New moderators should get to know each others a little and discuss some issues before they start with their job. Two or three emails should be enough for that - there is no need to reach agreement on any minor possible topic .. It makes sense if the moderators act like a team -it would be no good idea if they started flame wars about their differing policies :). It also will help if there are two other guys you can ask if you are not sure what is the right decision. Probably the new team also will contact the old one and ask if there are any things they should know or for some tips which questions should be clarified before start. Possible topics for example: When are your holidays ? When it is about asking for deletion of an account : unanimous decision or majority ? Stuff like that. The rest can be dealt with the charter and some common sense IMHO. >Will you post the moderation policy (not for debate) but so ICC members know the >new moderation policy? Difficult question - really. No, in general I think this shouldn't be done. Some explanation: Example 1: All moderators are on holiday between 24-31 December and ICD is closed ( fiction). This will certainly influence moderation policy in this week very much but shouldn't be posted. Example 2: No moderator will moderate in a threat with a heated debate he is involved with himself. This one is a better example for my reasons - sounds like a perfect and good rule in general. But : maybe this moderator is the only one around currently and some poster just left common ground completely in the discussion and suggests murder or attacks with racism or whatever strange things might come to mind. The moderator gets tons of complaints - maybe he better should delete the post anyway now, shouldn't he? And I think heated discussions on how the moderator didn't follow chapter 13.1 combined with 11.4 of the moderation policy sound like a bad idea. Also: someone starts some bullshit noone ever would have thought of - what use in discussions about how this never was posted in the moderation policy and so on .. The charter is enough written rules - easy to understand and everyone agreed on it anyway. Let's face it : moderation threads are the most boring ones and not the main reason why people come here :). I think the new team should only post if they come up with some _new_ policy - something they want to deal with in a different way than the last team did. Example : New team says : Posts about hardware issues not connected with computerchess will be deleted . This is a moderation policy most probably covered by the charter - it's only very surprising as this has been tolerated during all the last moderation periods - posters would have to face moderation all of a sudden for posts that have been accepted all the time - and probably get very angry. So - post the new moderation policy ? Only if there is some major change to former moderation periods. Regards, pete
